A pretty basic class, with no special engine based abilities. It's also limited to 5 levels which could be upped.

Renamed

We've renamed this to "Knight". While it's clearly Purple Dragon Knight in the source (Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (p49)), a Knight class works a lot better since many modules have no mount options.

In the only single module supporting this class, we could TLK override rename it.

We also have remove the mounted feat requirement since all the abilities work perfectly well unmounted! Then it's more usable across the game modules most of which don't have mounts.

Overhaul Changes

  • Renamed from Purple Dragon Knight to Knight
  • Removed requirements of Ride skill and Mounted Combat

Potential Changes

  • The entire class is not hardcoded so really up to improvements to be made throughout for abilities. The only "horse class" though so needs taking into account.
  • Expand from level 5 upwards.
    • Add more uses of existing abilities at semi-sensible levels
      • This will require more feats adding
    • Add Epic Levels in. The bonus feats table already has this coded in (every 3 levels)
      • Reused some of the Fighter bonus feat list for this
  • Some fixes:
    • Add Heal as a class skill.
  • Some prereq adjustments:
    • The skills list is ridiculous! D&Ds is: Skills: Diplomacy or Intimidate 1 rank, Listen 2 ranks, Ride 2 ranks, Spot 2 ranks
    • So to simplify: Remove Persuade from the list. This makes it a lot simpler.

Overhaul Description

(PRESTIGE CLASS)
Famous knights are regarded across the realm as exemplars of disciplined, skilled, loyal soldiers. Knights develop uncanny skills relating to coordinating and leading soldiers. Most are fighters, rangers or paladins, but a few bards, clerics, and rogues have been known to become knights. Sorcerers and Wizards tend to instead take other routes to power, while barbarians are too undisciplined, and druids and monks too "uncivilized" to enter this career.
